About your guide

I was born and raised in the mountains of Carara before it was a national park. My love for nature inspired me to obtain my certification as a tour guide, and have since been providing tours for over 22 years. It is my mission to teach history, sustainability and reverence for Costa Rica’s important tropical forest and natural resources. I look forward to sharing an unforgettable experience with you!

About your activity

I will meet you at the entrance to the Carara National Park where we will start the tour. As we proceed down the main trail, where we will observe as the ecosystems of both a dry forest and a rainforest converge. This is the only place in the world where these two types of ecosystems meet. As we progress through the trails, I will point out the various animal species that are hiding in the trees, including birds, reptiles, amphibians, monkeys, sloths, and other mammals native to Costa Rica. For animals that may be harder to see, you can observe them through the binoculars and telescope that I bring along. For each animal that we encounter, I will describe their habitat, as well as their behavioral characteristics. After two hours of exploring the trails, we will walk back to the park’s entrance to end the tour.

A natural sanctuary

The entire tour takes place in Carara National Park, where the dense trees and vegetation make it a popular home for a vast number of animal species, including over 400 species of birds and one of the largest remaining populations of wild scarlet macaws in the country.

What else you should know

The park is easily accessible for people with disabilities.
